Work is progressing well at the new house at Monaltrie Avenue in Ballater. The highly insulated timber kit allows the structure of the house to be built within a few weeks, and with the windows now installed works can begin internally.
We can also see the internal spaces taking shape, especially what is going to be an impressive open plan living space containing the kitchen, dining area and sitting area. Featuring a vaulted ceiling, full height gable windows, and 2 sets of sliding door, this will be a bright and spacious space, connected to the garden and providing views of the surrounding landscape.
The main contractor is Brudon Joinery, who started work on the house earlier this year and are expected to be complete early in 2019.
The building form is based on the simplicity of traditional domestic vernacular, with flush eaves and simple gable features. The layout in plan takes cognisance of the view and the sun path during the day. The main living areas are contained in a single storey wing attached to the main 1 ½ storey building. The materials of slate, white render and granite are traditional to Ballater.
WCP have worked on this project with Ramsay & Chalmers and Scott Robertson Associates.
